So like many of San Francisco's tourists, we were headed to Alcatraz. It seems you can't go anywhere without waiting in line, and today was to be no different. We had to wait about 30 minutes to board a ferry that would take us to the island. The ferry ride was only 10 minutes and entertaining in its own right. The sea was not particularly calm and it seemed there were some folks unfamiliar with the sea and ferry rides. No chunks exposed themselves, but colors certainly changed. The sea was tossing back and forth and the boat was sending up small sprays of water. Water had not yet made it on deck, so many passengers were huddled near the front of the boat staring expectantly at Alcatraz. However when the boat caught a wave just right it sent up a huge spray of water, sparing no one in its path. I was watching from an upper deck and allowed myself a chuckle.
We arrived at Alcatraz's dock ready to experience one of the most infamous prisons in history. I quickly exclaimed "welcome to the rock" in my best Sean Connery voice(which isn't good). To Amanda's dismay, that would not be the last time I impersonated Mr. Connery. We bought some informative brochures for a dollar, the proceeds of which were said to be spent in restorative efforts. I delved into them, but I don't think Amanda could have cared less. We walked the entire island, missing no area that we were allowed to explore. At a certain point the park officials give you an audio player and headphones which guides you through a tour of the entire prison area.

Yeah, I've been to Alcatraz myself. I like that Clint Eastwood movie, "Escape from Alcatraz."
I think you were in some other class I had some other semester. Was it History of film?
Anyhoo, there's a lot to talk about at Alcatraz. Did you see where the bomb cracked the floor? Or the mannequins made of hair and toothpaste or some such something? Or the deck where the big shootout happened? You could talk about those things too. Oh, did you ever play Tony Hawk's pro skater? One of those games had a level that was an impeccable replica of Alcatraz. I played the game after going to the place, and it was kinda cool to see somewhere I'd been in a video game. Well, this was a long, pointless comment, soooo, I'm out!
